CASPER DDA VOTES IN FAVOR OF MILL LEVY
November 10th, 2009

The Downtown Development Authority District contains over 200 properties. Several are tax-exempt entities. These propoperties were not eligible to vote. However, of the 80+ individual prperty owners eligible to vote, 25 voted in favor of the 16 mill levy with only one descenting vote cast on Tuesday, November 3, 2009. These 26 total votes actually represent over 70 downtown properties as several owners own more than one property.
This vote for the 16 mill is significant in that the annual tax revenue funds the DDA office and its operational, promotional and capital improvement projects.
Tax dollars fund such projects as the annual free hourly parking in the downtown parking garage which begins Nov. 23 and goes through the end of this calendar year.
Other projects include the Adopt-A-Planters, pigeon control, alley lighting and security lighting 50-50 matching program, graffiti abatement efforts, streetscape, and larger reconstruction partnerships such as the recent completion of the Second Street Redevelopment Project with the City of Casper.
On the docket for the next couple of years are ongoing maintenance and promotional efforts with money being set aside to reconstruct Center Street to match Second Street.
